Diane Coyle

Diane is starting a new book this year. Her latest one is The Soulful Science. As the subtitle explains, it's about what economists really do and why it matters. The book surveys key developments in economics during the past 20 years, advances which have revolutionised economists' ability to analyse society and improve policies. The paperback will be out in a while, and the book is being translated into a number of other languages. It was one of the business books of 2008 in The Times. It has recently featured in Les Echos and the French blogosphere. Read a summary article here.

Her previous bestseller was Sex, Drugs and Economics. It takes a fun look at the application of economics to all sorts of subjects, and may be available on Amazon. It's currently being revised, however; please apply to Diane for on-demand orders of the new edition, which will not be published for a while. Earlier books, 'Paradoxes of Prosperity' (winner of an award from the Professional and Scholarly Publishing division of the AAP) and 'The Weightless World' look at the economic and social impacts of new technologies.

Diane's first book was 'The Weightless World', published in the UK by Capstone and in the US by the MIT Press, and also translated into many other languages. Download as a 1.9MB pdf file here.

It was one of the first books to look at the way the new technologies mean that economies are growing increasingly weightless, or intangible.
